NEW MOTOR

Not sure if anyone is checking the forums or not but wanted to spread the word; I GOT A NEW MOTOR!

so, i picked up a K20A2.  it was out of an 04 and i got it for $1600.  dude originally wanted 2200 for it but...  you know me!

Plans are as follows:

tear the dam thing apart, install 9:1 compression pistons, eagle h-rods, stage 3 head, put it back together, tune it, and try not to blow it up again.

other plans are: Install JDM steering wheel,  ITR recaros, possible HID conversion (gotta break the news to the lady

Jay if youre reading this, i will be on break until i get this car running again.  If it  blows up again after all this, im giving it up.    no hard feelings but this sh*t is getting expensive.

One love and im out.

So, i got the head off and have began taking apart the bottom end.  So far, everythings been ok; cylinder walls look good, and the pistons look healthy.

heres the big question...   Lower compression means fewer emissions.  Ive asked around and have heard that i can run the stock 11:1 tune with 9:1 pistons and still pass smog.  anyone else heard of this?  i figure the car will run like sh*t but im not worried about that; im worried about the ref asking questions like " why is it running like that?"  guess im just venting my problems.  another question, how do i post pictures?  id like to show a few progress pix so you all can see whats up.

actually you can run low compression and tune to it and still pass emissions...depends on you if you want to tune to pass and then tune to perform...what will you be tuning with when its all done?that will determine if you can ref it...if you go kpro you can probably for get about, but if you just do a reflash thru Hondata then you will probably be good to go.

If you do go with the stock map for your car and ref it I do not see why you wouldn't pass...if anything it would lean out up top but hey your reffing it so it only see's 2500-3000 rpm at most...good luck with it and let us know if you need any help

good news for me, i already have k-pro.  i was thinking of throwing the stock map for smog and a tuned map for my modifications.  i just wasnt sure if it was possible to pass with a map that was meant for a different compression ratio.  I think ill just end up going to a test only station to see.

Im going to tune it for 9:1(conservatively).  what would be the point if i didnt right?

oh yeah, one more thing, ive already been to the ref with k-pro.  it didnt raise any eyebrows except the fact that the car was required to be "curbside" smogged.  the car wasnt required to go under load.  the ref was dumbfounded!

hey man, i was trying to call back and got no answer.  n-e-way, the OLD HEAD is most likely smashed; it might not be salvageable.  and, unfortunately i will need my throttle body since i only picked up a long block.  as for the rods, i will take that into consideration.  there are many manufacturers out there and i guess i just threw a name out there.  for power, im probably only going to see about 280 at the wheels at 15psi.  like i said, im looking for a bit of longevity so a conservitave tune is where im going.  call me what you want but i enjoy driving the dam thing and i hate seeing it sit in the garage.  i like to get out and bury the occasional mustang/camaro/mercedes

its a common misconception for eagle rods breaking and what notbut as with everything that deals with engine building "if its put together right,it will last".If you go with eagle rods make sure you get the ARP rod bolts...call around and ask shops(reputable of course)and ask what their opinion is on your set up...

looks like she needed some "ack rite" as patrick would say.

Aye John, is your manifold flanged for a T3 style turbine inlet? If so....you should look into the garret ball bearing turbos. GT30R.....once you go ball bearing, youll never go back.....never...

yes sir, i believe it is!  the only problem is that ball bearing turdblows are expensive.  good news for me, i will be underworking the turbine i have now so i might not have to upgrade just yet. Havent you ever seen the sh*t thats on there now?  they went way big on the RSX  application.  come on...  11:1 compression needs that big of a snail????  the turbo was only supposed to produce 5psi on the stock engine with the reflash and it looks like it wants to boost 20 all day!!!    i see your point Ted, but its not in my budget right now. my main goal is to get this fuccer running again.  im getting depressed looking at it in the garage. she looks sad.

how fancy is that?!  ill check it out at a later date.  Like i said before, gotta get the dam thing running first.  Thanks for the heads up though!  :)

Jimmy, Im not too sure what is salvageable at this point.  all i got was a longblock so i will be need ing my throttle body, intake manifold, etc.    i may end up with an extra set of camshafts, knock sensor(among other sensors), valve cover; but i plan to selll everything i can to make back some cash.  motors dont build themselves, cash does.

im not really sure.  funds are the issue right now.  umm, i plan to take my time with this and get it back together better than it was assembled in the first place.  i will send the block and head out after the new year and hopefully get it back within a minimal amount of time.  There will be a few extra things i will need to pick up before i can even drive the car.  After i get the motor back in, i will need to tune it for daily driving, work out the bugs,  and also tune for max power(conservative).  all that being said, id say this coming summer???  dont hold me to that but thats what i estimate if things go well.  you never know man, stupid sh*t  always tends to hold you up.

yeah, it would be nice to see high 12's.  thats fast enough for me.  i always believe that the faster you are, the more things that break.
