Had to do some redo work on the rear hatch because my brother listened to my rookie advice. That A+B epoxy I have a surplus of ended up sagging under the metal and filler that my brother used. Needless to say, he wasn't happy about that.
Oh ya, thats the key! It would suck to redo after paint and clear.
So the top is ready to paint. I dont know if the clear will be sprayed in the garage, but the black base on the top will be for sure. If the weather is decent tomorrow (upper 60s) my brother will probably spray it. If not, we may turn on the propane heater and get the garage warmed up enough.

Well well well....the base was shot in the garage and then nibbed down to remove dirt from the inherent garage paint job problems. The next 3 pics are of just the base coat. NO clear was used. You can see the light scratches the wetsand paper left behind, so you can see what I mean.
Then the clear gets sprayed on.
After 3 coats, there are certain things that show themselves. But there aint nothing a little cutting and buffing wont take care of.
Kinda mirrorish
My brother cheesin.
At this point...there are talks of spraying the car in the garage! My brother is lovin this clear! Bringing it back to the old school days of shooting cars in the garage 20 years ago.
Sweet ted! I hope you were wearinv a respirator too. So the roof and jambs are gunna be black? And what brand clear is that? It levels itself out pretty good. It laid down pretty flat and looks thick!
Oh of course I had on a mask, I aint crazy. That **** will **** up your lungs for sure. I pulled the mask off for the photo shoot :) The roof and the upper part of the jams are gonna be black, just like the factory does it.
Believe it or not its a Matrix High solids clear. Apparently its a PPG equivalent, but it was coming out thicker than a southern black woman.
Its a PPG comparable mix, Not exactly off the shelf. The VOCs are quite a bit higher than allowed as well :) Its pretty decent stuff for what it is. We are definitely gonna wait a few weeks, maybe even a couple months till it gets cut and buffed. My bro is working on a side project and we wont be working on the car till Friday, more updates then.
Tony is this a clear coat that seems like good quality?
The paint guy said its a PPG comparable clear coat.
This is the base coat.
Its angled up a little bit so the rockers can be sprayed easier.
Fully masked ready to go, this is how she sits right now.
I think these might be the last updates to this thread for a little bit. I think the full paint job will need to be seen with proper pictures taken. Not sure yet, we'll see.
lol thanks for the shout out lol. i did offer the time, but im sure as hell glad that it was just you and your bro. quality bonding time that you can look back on and smile about. good ****. super wicked **** right there.
